Our story begins in the vast solitude of a distant land. The stage is set under a canopy of stars where a tightly knit group of male Emperor Penguins huddles in the frigid winds to provide for their recently laid eggs. The winters are harsh and the adult penguins seek out cooperation from their group to protect their offspring. Theirs is a community of warmth lending its love to new life, connected by a shared purpose to provide for their younglings.
Responsibilities are shared equally yet uniquely amongst the Emperor Penguin parents. The male incubates the egg while the female undergoes a strenuous trek to feed herself after laying the egg. The male penguins huddle together with their backs to the strong katabatic winds, watching over their eggs. They form concentric circles warming one penguin at a time in the centre, while simultaneously taking turns being in the outermost freezing, fringe, only to protect the welfare of the group.
A silent code of honour is upheld as each Penguin performs its part with complete involvement. One penguin steps out of the circle. Its internal compass wired quite suddenly to a different direction from that of the group. The change is drastic and its origin mysterious. So strong is its resolve to follow its internal path that no intervention from human or animal can deter it. Thus, it walks, away from the group, away from the sea, away from what is expected of it and the Penguin huddle allows for this to happen for it respects the freedom of the individual. This is the Disoriented Penguin.
From this metaphorical chapter a new drama unfolds- The creation of our production house. Our quest parallels that of the Disoriented Penguin. Carrying with it the values of its community, the Disoriented Penguin charts off into the unknown, fearless, vulnerable and seeking truth. The solo Penguin's journey represents the ethos of our company's creative expression.
